Serbian intangible cultural heritage in the Western Balkans: Perils and prospects of inclusive research and safeguarding (SICHWEB)

The issue – heritage “worth dying for”
• Intangible cultural heritage (ICH) – beliefs, customs, traditional knowledge and practices (UNESCO Convention 2003)
• State-controlled ICH safeguarding systems tend to undervalue and underrepresent minority ICH
• Project concentrates on ICH shared-while contested by Serbs, Bosniaks and Montenegrins
• How to involve various stakeholders in ICH safeguarding to achieve regional reconciliation and prevent new identity-based conflicts (UNESCO, EU, Council of Europe, World Bank), while preserving the academic integrity of ethnology and anthropology?
